WHAT IS ARABICA COFFEE?

There are many stories or myths when it comes to the history of coffee and the most common stories would come from Ethiopian province and another is that the origination of coffee is from Yemen and perhaps it boils only to one point that coffee is the most popular drink in the world and globally trade as a commodity. The most traded and the most popular coffee around the world is Arabica coffee.

Arabica coffee is considered the first ever type of coffee bean that has ever been consumed. Arabica coffee bean is considered dominant in terms of its use since 70 percent has been globally produced. Arabica coffee when it comes to taste is of high quality because slightly sweet flavour, with a hint of chocolate, nuts and caramel. There is also a slight hint of fruit and berries and slightly acidity and a little bitterness.

If you want to enjoy a good cup of coffee, you might be the type that would prefer mild and fruity type, bitter and full bodied but the difference for a coffee is not the roasting or the brewing but it will actually come from the coffee bean. There are a dozen species of coffee but only Arabica and Robusta has been cultivated for consumption and 70% of Arabica coffee is globally produced while Robusta has only 30%.

Arabica coffee is mainly cultivated in Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Ethiopia and Burundi. Arabica coffee has less caffeine compared to Robusta and for some people who are concerned on the negative effect of too much caffeine, Arabica coffee is a better choice. Arabica coffee contains more sugar than robusta and Arabica coffee has twice as much sugar content than robusta and majority of people prefer sweet over bitter flavours.
